Having worked in various manufacturing industries for over 25 years I set up my own company (Dinis Consultancy) in 2014. My formal education is in Electronic Engineering & Business Administration and I hold third-level qualifications in both. I spent the earlier part of my career working for large multinationals (Philips Industrial Electronics, Alps Automotive, SPX) in engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and material management roles.
I am slow to use words like supply chain management, logistics etc because having worked in more recent years with Small & Micro business’s I find that these terms are alien to most. I am fortunate to have benefited from the experience of working for larger, well-resourced firms and learnt what I did there. I now take the knowledge of what I have learnt there and try to apply it in a practical way to smaller indigenous firms.
Fifty per cent of my work is now with Small SME’s where I help them in a practical manner with matters pertaining to purchasing, importing/exporting and the day-to-day practicalities of the same. For some companies producing an invoice with an HS code and commercial information is a new departure, for those companies who are used to exporting internationally its second nature. Everything is easy when you know how & I try to provide practical low-cost guidance and solutions to smaller companies who don’t have the benefit of the resources of larger more established companies.
The remaining 50 per cent of my time is spent consulting with mid to large size companies on ERP implementations and on running my own import/export business. In the area of ERP implementation, I assist in finding a solution that fits the needs and price tag of the client company and work on the difficult task of implementing the system. A huge element that is often overlooked in such a process is the “cultural change” required as a result of implementing such a system. Having worked for years in Industry I know what a company wants from a system and try to find the best fit between the ERP offerings on the marketplace and the client company. As regards online presence & social media accounts, you will find little on me or my company online as to date 100% of my business has been by referral (word of mouth).
